Ngqunge location of Tabase A/A in Mthatha is where I come from. Not very far from home is a beautiful place called Mpeko that is situated in one of the mountainous parts of the area with among other attractions it boasts is a beautiful forest that has always been useful in many ways for the community.
Take a moment now and visualise a situation where you are sitting in front of the television set watching when all of a sudden pictures from your area appear on the screen and not for all the good reasons bear in mind.
What I saw on television on Thursday 22 2009 about Mpeko Senior Secondary School of Mthatha is a disgraced that left much to be desired. The SABC’s current affairs programme, Cutting Edge episode aired on the night left me and many others about lack of professionalism among the teachers from the school.
In fighting among staff over positions top the list of priorities for teachers in the school over the future of learners. I was actually disturbed with the behaviour shown by some of the teachers in front of the camera can you imagine. They were like we do not care we have the backing of the teachers’ union. Arrogance coupled with ill discipline and lack of manners is just some of the characteristics that best describe the behaviour of the teachers from the school. To me learners made more sense than teachers in terms of how they conducted themselves during interview situations and their responses to questions were accurate and straight to the point. I feel a great deal of pity for the principal of the school as it became glaringly obvious from the insets that she has completely lost control of her troops. No respect at all is shown for her by those bubble gum-chewing ladies who for me looked more like drunkards than school teachers. I wish the likes of Julius Malema should take action about what is happening at the school and those so-called teachers do not deserve to be there or anywhere near any classroom for that matter. Shame on you incompetent, irresponsible and unreliable “teachers” for putting the name of the school and its rich history made by your predecessors in complete jeopardy because of greed. And yes so far you have succeeded in embarrassing our beloved town but we will have to see how long that lasts. Thank you very much to the Cutting Edge team for continuing with the great job they are doing in exposing wrong doing of any kind. Ntsiki Nohiya and the whole team are superb.
